Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra and its art director and conductor Karel Mark Chichon return to the Theatre, Music & Dance Festival with Aires gitanos, a program counting with the soloist Sergej Krylov, Russian violinist that will give shine with his instrument to some of the most popular pieces composed by the violin virtuoso Pablo Sarasate: Aires gitanos and Fantasía sobre Carmen, the Spanish and Gypsy touch of a proposal which includes to Gypsy pages by Johann Strauss II, Csárdás from Die Fledermaus and The Gypsy Baron Overture. Along with those, the famous Franz von Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture, a tribute to the 200th anniversary of the Austro-Hungarian composer, so popular in the Vienna theatres of the XX century. The concert will end on a high note, with the Latin American rhythms of two pieces that need no introduction, Carlos Gardel’s tango Por una cabeza, and Pérez Prado’s Mambo.
About the company
After a non-stop symphonic activity since 1845, the new Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria (OFGC) is born as such from the public foundation of the same name, created by Cabildo de Gran Canaria in 1980. Since then, it has worked continuously, always increasing their symphonic and lyrical performances. OFGC has participated in the most relevant symphonic cycles in Spain, and has toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan and china. It also works hard for the popularization of music in the different municipalities of Gran Canaria, and takes part in numerous social actions and projects. OFCG received the Can de Plata award from Cabildo de Gran Canaria in the 92nd anniversary of the Institution, as well as the Premio de las Artes y de la Ciencia Canarios en el Mundo from El Mundo newspaper and Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
