TEATRO KDO / FIREWORKS: 'LA MALETA'
The show La Maleta [The Bag], co-produced by the companies Teatro KDO and Fireworks under the direction of José Pedro Hernández, with Yanely Hernández acting as his assistant director, was written by Enrique and Yeray Bazo, while Julio Nieto carried out its stage design. It has as its root Pedro Lezcano’s famous poem, who was one of the 20th century’s most important Canarian intellectuals.
Under his influence, a gigantic bag will serve as the stage for the different spaces where the show takes place, stunningly changing during the performance and giving room to an original staging.
In this visual setting, seven characters, who are victims of forced emigration, tell their realities in search of freedom via a cross-disciplinary performance combining theater, dance, acrobatics and music.
The Company
Teatro KDO is, with its 24-year experience and over 500 performances all around the Archipelago, one of the companies that have produced more shows in Canarias. Located in Tenerife, it has proven its command of large-format shows with proposals such as Garoé, which had a great reception in 2009 at the Festival.
Fireworks is a young theater company from Gran Canaria that won the public with its first production, BoleRock & Roll, directed by and starring Mingo Ruano, alongside Cristina Ramos, Patricia Muñoz and Yanely Hernández. For the last three it has consolidated itself thanks to the making of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s traditional Christmas lighting.
