XARXA TEATRE: 'FAHRENHEIT ARA PACIS'

Xarxa Teatre comes back to the Festival, after having already performed their shows Les Rates Mortes, in 2007, and Papers!, in 2014, with a play that explores the pacifist message. The title refers to the ancient temples Romans built after horrible wars so the goddess didn’t abandon them and could enjoy long periods of wealth in peace. Nevertheless, those temples ended up being turned into ashes by new wars or religious intolerance.

Xarxa uses the usual techniques in its well-known performances –big mobile structures, use of staged pyrotechnics, spectacular lightning effects…– to show the audience the evolution of a peaceful rural society from ancient Roman time into a violent militia born from lack of freedom, mainstream ideological conformism and cultural destruction, as explained by Ray Bradbury in Fahrenheit 451, as well as the bellicose frenzy to which they succumb.

The Company

Xarxa Teatre is a theater company specialized in large-format street shows. Founded in 1983 and based in Vila-real (Spain), they have performed their shows in all five continents. Xarxa’s performances stand out for their festive character, their radical tone, their use of staged pyrotechnics and for their own language, inspired from Valencian traditions and which has managed to become universal. After more than 30 years of activity, the company keeps on innovating within street theater.
